Tojo the Monkey, Clonakilty

Writing on the back of the card:

In 1943, a flight from the USA carrying 10 American crewmen and Tojo, the monkey, was thrown off course and ended up landing in Clonakilty. A three day party ensued in the local hotel and Tojo became an instant celebrity. No one had ever seen a monkey! Unfortunately, Tojo died a few days later. He was laid on a bed in the hotel and hundreds of people queued up to see his body. Sweetly, Tojo was given a traditional Irish wake with full military honours.
