Michael Collins, the revolutionaly leader (1890-1922) lived on Emmet Square in Clonakilty for a time. He had a strong affection for the Kerry Blue Terrier, a native Irish breed. He owned a dog named “Convict 224” often seen by his side. Collins championed the Kerry Blue as Ireland’s national dog.
